Young people studying in Mallorca can apply for the new Intermodal Card for students from this Friday.

This new version of the Intermodal Card profile will enable some 40,000 young students to travel free on the TIB network.

The Board of Directors of the Consorci de Transports de Mallorca (CTM) has approved the new version of the Intermodal Card for students. From now on, anybody under the age of 31 studying in Mallorca can travel free of charge on the TIB network’s the bus, train and metro lines. This freedom to travel on the network free of charge will not only be for this year, when all public transport is free for all versions of the Intermodal Card profiles; it will be permanently free, as is already the case for children's cards.
This measure, included in the ‘social shield’ of the Government of the Balearic Islands, will for the first time allow young people from the other islands who are studying in Mallorca to be able to get the Intermodal Card and travel for free on the entire TIB network.
This new version of the card is open to students under 31 years of age, regardless of where they live, who are enrolled in any educational centre (public, subsidised or private) in Mallorca on any of the following official educational programmes: Compulsory Secondary Education, Baccalaureate, vocational training, basic vocational training, special education and university studies (including the Conservatory of Music and Dance of the Balearic Islands and ESADIB). To apply for the card, in addition to the user's identity document, it is necessary to present both the original and a photocopy of the certificate of enrolment from the centre where they are studying. It should be noted that the card will expire at the end of each academic year on 31 August, and in order to renew it, the user must present their enrolment documentation for the upcoming academic year.
It is estimated that there are around 40,000 young high school, vocational training and university students who will now be able to benefit from this new measure.
Currently, 360,808 people (as of 15/03/2023) have an Intermodal Card, 28% of whom are young people between 17 and 30 years of age.
