The Govern opens the tender for the contract to replace and maintain the escalators at Palma's Intermodal station

The Majorcan Transport Consortium publishes the specifications for the contract to renovate the escalators for the first time, with an expected investment of €1.2 million.

The Govern opens the tender for the replacement of the escalators at Palma's Intermodal station for the first time. With the publication of the tender documents on the Procurement Platform, the tendering process for this contract, with an expected investment of around €1.2 million, begins today. In addition, the Majorcan Transport Consortium (CTM) is working to improve the Intermodal station with different actions, such as the installation of fans in the bus docks this summer, among others.

In the Intermodal station, within the scope of CTM management, there are currently six escalators installed, four at the main entrance and two to access the bus docks, which came into operation in 2007 and have not been renovated since then. For more than ten years, the stairs of the main entrance were exposed to the weather, a fact that spoiled their condition and which was addressed with the installation of the pergola in 2018. Even so, in recent years the staircases have suffered many breakdowns, which has caused inconvenience to users and led to the tendering of the contract for their renovation.

An investment of €1,185,680 (VAT excluded) is foreseen, which is financed by the Insularity Factor of the Balearic Islands. The tendering process that now begins the process of requesting bids was initiated a few months ago, working with the required diligence for the replacement of the staircases and following the procurement regulations of public administrations.

According to the established deadlines, the new access stairs to the main entrance of the Intermodal station are expected to be installed during the first quarter of 2026, since the process of receiving tenders, awarding, manufacturing and installing the escalators involves nine months of work.
Work is currently underway to repair the existing escalators, with the goal of keeping them operational both up and down until the installation of the new escalators has been completed. The lifts that give access to the station concourse, located next to the north access pergola, continue to be an access option for users with reduced mobility, as well as for other users.

The CTM is working on further projects to refurbish the Intermodal station. In addition to the tender for the staircases, the installation of fans in the bus bays is currently being awarded and is expected to be installed during the summer. Other actions to improve accessibility and comfort at the station include changing the main access doors to the station, renovating the tactile floor, refurbishing the public toilets and the information and customer service office. All these actions are financed by the Insularity Factor of the Balearic Islands for a total amount of approximately €2.5 million.
The Govern continues to work to improve the infrastructure of interurban public transport in Majorca with the aim of guaranteeing a quality and safe service for all users.
