This year, for the first time, the Govern de les Illes Balears will provide a regular Aerotib bus line service in the low season. It will run throughout the day and from Monday to Sunday, meaning that the connections of the TIB inter-city bus network between the main resident population centres in several municipalities of Part Forana and Palma airport will be maintained throughout the year.
This is one of this year’s most important improvements promoted by the Government through the Majorcan Transport Consortium (CTM), and comes about thanks to the modification of the bus service concessions. It will allow users of the TIB network to enjoy this service during the low season, the new timetables for the winter season coming into force this Saturday, 1st November.
The Minister for Housing, Territory and Mobility, José Luis Mateo, together with the Director General of Mobility, Lorena del Valle, and the manager of CTM, Lluïsa Serra, underlined that this improvement reflects the Govern's commitment to strengthening and increasing public transport, with resident citizens in mind, and that it has come about thanks to last’s year’s modification of concessions.
From now on, the airport bus service will be extended throughout the year and will incorporate changes to the timetable and route to connect Son Sant Joan airport and the main resident population centres, including Calvià, Inca, Manacor, Sa Pobla, Alcúdia, Llucmajor and Campos, during the low season, via the Aerotib A11, A33, A43 and A51 lines, every day of the week.
Each line will offer between 26 and 38 daily departures, creating a regular Aerotib service for the first time in the low season, with an average frequency of between 1 hour and 1 hour and 15 minutes - depending on the line - from Monday to Sunday. The Aerotib line service has not been provided in the low season for the last five years, and in the three years prior to that - from 2017 to 2019 - it was offered with just a few daily departures, at most eight per day (four to the airport and four back), and on some lines just two per day (one bus to the airport and one bus back).
This year, the A11 line, which began its low season service last December, will continue to connect the Calvià area with the airport, starting this Saturday. This line will have stops in Portals Nous, Palmanova, Magaluf, Santa Ponça and Peguera, among others, with an average frequency of one hour and fifteen minutes. The first daily departure will be at 4.40 a.m. from Peguera and the last at 10.30 p.m. from the airport, for a total of 26 journeys per day.
As for the northern area, line A33 will replace line A32 in the winter season due to modification of the route, and will connect the bays of Pollença and Alcúdia with the airport by means of a transfer at the Alcúdia or Port d'Alcúdia stops. This line will have stops in Inca, Sa Pobla, Alcúdia and Port d'Alcúdia, with an average frequency of one hour. The first departure will be at 4.15 am from Port d'Alcúdia, and the last at 11.35 pm from the airport, for a total of 35 daily departures.
In the eastern area, the A43 line will replace the A42 line with a new route, and will connect this area with the airport. It will also offer the possibility of transferring at the Manacor train station stop. This line will have stops, by prior request, in Algaida, Montuïri and Vilafranca. The A43 will have an average frequency of one hour, with the first departure at 4.30 am from Manacor and the last at 11.25 pm from the airport, for a total of 38 daily departures.
The A51 line will continue its summer season service, with stops at S'Arenal, the Son Noguera industrial estate, Llucmajor and Campos, and will continue with an average frequency of one hour. The first departure will be at 4.35 am from Campos and the last at 11.40 pm from the airport, for a total of 38 daily departures.
The timetables for the winter season will come into force this Saturday, 1st November, and all the information about the service can be consulted on the website www.tib.org. Travellers interested in receiving up-to-date information on the TIB network service can register in the "TIB and you" user area, choose their preferred lines, and receive service notifications. They will also be offered the opportunity to be informed at all times of the movements of their public transport card.
